Mr. Anand Prakash Misra, is a Mechanical Engineer (IIM-BHU, 1968) with a Post Graduate degree in Management (IMS-BHU, 1970). He started his professional career with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. in 1970 as a Management Trainee and moved on in 1976 as Works Manager to Mukand Iron & Steel Ltd., with independent charge of a profit center employing over 500 people. Exhibiting entrepreneurial traits at an early stage of his career, in 1982, he set up his own Consultancy Firm (Strategic Management Associates), specializing in turn-around and performance enhancement assignments.
Subsequently he worked as Chief Executive of Bry-Air (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (1991-1996) and of Amforge Industries Ltd. (1996-2000). Mr Misra went back to L&T at the end of his career where he headed one of the company’s Strategic Business Units first as General Manager (2001-2005) and then as Vice President (2005-2009). During his tenure, operations at the SBU grew five folds, without further investment or increase in manpower, and the unit that was making losses till he took over, earned 9% profit on sales in 2008-09.
Kautuki has been conceived as a social enterprise which is run as a private entity in terms of focus on productivity and return on capital employed (ROCE) but no demand for returns on equity (ROE) by promoters. The surplus generated by the business is either redeployed to fund growth or distributed equitably among all its stake-holders such as employees, member farmers, as well as inhabitants of the region at large.
